A lower-carbon future for a historic place.
The Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich is an internationally recognised historic setting, with Grade I listed buildings and scheduled monuments. Decarbonising an estate of this significance requires a careful balance between environmental performance and conservation.
Griffiths Evans produced a masterplan energy strategy to support the site’s net zero carbon ambitions while working within the constraints of its protected buildings.
The strategy proposes using the River Thames as a low-grade heat source for a new heat-pump system, replacing existing gas boiler plant. It establishes a route towards lower-carbon heat that responds to the setting as well as the needs of its buildings.
