Griffiths Evans designed building services and specialist cricket lighting for Cricket Shield at Bradford Park Avenue, developed with the England and Wales Cricket Board and total-play. The facility’s two adjoining covered structures provide ten practice lanes, with retractable netting allowing both training and match play.
The semi-open, translucent structure required careful consideration of daylight, fabric reflectance, glare, netting and lighting uniformity. Our work included on-site testing after installation, comparing measured lighting performance with the design and identifying lessons for future covered cricket facilities.
Opened in October 2023, Cricket Shield gives community and professional players more opportunities to practise and play throughout the year.
